Kayla + Alfred // Estes Park, Colorado // Rocky Mountain National Park
“Should we elope in Colorado!?” She said
“And make our family and friends climb up a mountain? Definitely.” He said
1 year later..
“That was the most I’ve ever hiked. This is view is F#@king incredible, totally worth it.”
Our wedding adventure began with passing candy back and forth with Alfred on our flight from Portland, Oregon to Denver, Colorado. Kayla had arrived a couple days before to set up shop with incoming family and orchestrate the upcoming week. Kayla + Alfred lived in Denver for years before relocating to Portland. It was in Denver that they made their first home together, discovered their love of hiking and the outdoors, got engaged, and had their son, Ysi. Who is AMAZING and possibly the funniest child we’ve ever met. Seriously though, he sleeps with his eyes open (weird and also definitely included in this blog)! So it only made sense that they would celebrate the next chapter of their lives in the Colorado rockies just outside of Rocky Mountain National Park. A little over an hour’s drive from Denver through beautiful red rock terrain and we arrive. The morning flew by quickly as bridesmaids got ready at cabin in Estes Park. Kayla kept busy putting final touches on vows, lacing up hiking boots, and being a badass getting down to Run the Jewels. All the while Alfred was getting ready with the guys just down the road.
We met in the forest after a bouncy ride winding through the rocky mountain wilderness. Everyone was ecstatic! Family members and friends traveling from Texas, Iowa, Washington, and Oregon were ready to make the hike up the ceremony site. With guidance from Shaun at Colorado Wedding Productions and the passing of ice cold beverages we made it to the granite top opening. To have your wedding on a mountain top, we were all stuck in high gear awe. Blankets were thrown down and an improv ceremony was held. There was something extra. That collected thought of “this is perfect”. As soon the ceremony ended chatter erupted.
“I never realized you could just have a wedding on a mountain top”
“This is so them.”
“Just bring the DJ here, I’m staying”
“That was the most beautiful wedding, wasn’t it just the most beautiful wedding?”
Yes it was. After the ceremony and many, many pictures (we couldn’t get enough) we made our way to the ceremony at The Greenbriar Inn in Boulder, CO. And only got lost a little on the way down! Speeches, music, and amazing food ruled the evening. As the rockies went dark family and friends came together to tell some of the best late night humor we’ve heard in years. We chuckled all the way back home to Portland.
