Robin + Andrew // Castaway Portland // Portland, Oregon

Many people often think of big mountain backdrops, towering waterfalls, and lush greenery when they think of Oregon weddings, not thinking about how much the city has to offer for a more urban wedding. Portland is an amazing place to plan an industrial wedding and it just so happens to be one of our favorite things to do! Shooting in the city gives us the opportunity to create something unique, to look at things differently, and to challenge ourselves to produce something we’ve never done before. Needless to say, we were pretty excited when we first met Robin and Andrew and heard more about them and what they’re planning. Above all, they wanted to have a wedding that brought all the people they love to the same place not only to celebrate them and their next chapter but to really have fun! Filled with cultural traditions bringing their two families together and some exciting surprises along the way I’d say they nailed it.

From the couple:

“Living in Ann Arbor and not being a college student, your options are limited when it comes to finding someone. So we both decided to try out Coffee Meets Bagel. Being each other’s first match, Andrew trying 3 times for a first date that led to 3 dates in the first week of meeting. On that first date, Robin told Andrew she would convince him that Seattle was the city to be in, and a year and a half later, they moved to Seattle together. A year after, Andrew asked Robin to go up to Woodinville, the Seattle area wine country. He had secretly been planning a whole day and had been working with Tim Blue, the owner of Adam’s Bench Winery, in preparation for the proposal. Andrew tricked Robin by creating a fake website for an event at Adam’s Bench Winery, and when they arrived, Robin was slightly concerned that there were no other attendees at the event. Since Andrew and Robin were the only ones at Adam’s Bench Winery at that time, they received a private tour of the wine cellar, and when Tim excused himself to return to the tasting room, Andrew took Robin outside, and in front of two large wooden doors to the cellar, on a bed of rose petals, got down on one knee. Robin was in so much shock that she couldn’t even say yes, she just nodded when Andrew popped the question! After they returned to the tasting room, inside waiting were Robin’s parents and best friend to celebrate with them.

When planning the wedding day, the most important part was making sure that all our guests had a good time and were able to celebrate the love that we share for each other and all of our friends and family. The best way we found to do this was to surprise them all with the Wedding Llamas and with great food and dancing!

Andrew’s favorite memory of the day is the ceremony, while Robin’s is the first look. The ceremony incorporated personal vows and a tribute to Andrew’s Filipino heritage with a cord and veil ceremony, which was extremely special to Andrew and his parents. The first look took place along with Willamette River waterfront, and when Andrew turned around for his first look, an on-looking party boat started cheering loudly. As this was also the first and probably only moment that Robin & Andrew had by themselves, she continues to savor the moment.”
